Energy & Utilities
AI built for the complexity of regulated energy infrastructure.
NERC standards, asset records, and operational history — structured into knowledge infrastructure that supports reliability, compliance, and field operations.
Energy and utility organizations operate critical infrastructure under a dense regulatory framework — NERC CIP, FERC tariffs, state public utility commission requirements — while managing aging physical assets with operational histories spanning decades. RonanLabs builds AI infrastructure that brings that institutional and regulatory knowledge into a queryable, auditable form.
The data problem in energy & utilities
Utility asset records span multiple generations of documentation standards, from paper-based maintenance logs to modern SCADA historian data. The operational history of a substation or distribution circuit may be stored across GIS systems, work order platforms, maintenance records, and engineering drawings that have never been systematically linked. Finding a complete picture of a single asset requires navigating four or five separate systems.
NERC CIP and FERC reliability standards require continuous compliance monitoring, evidence collection, and audit-ready documentation that consumes significant compliance staff time. The standards themselves are complex and evolving; staying current while maintaining evidence libraries for prior compliance cycles is a standing operational burden.
Outage analysis, reliability planning, and grid modeling require integration of operational data from OT systems with engineering analysis tools and regulatory reporting systems — a data integration problem that most utilities have addressed partially but not comprehensively. The gap between data that exists and data that is usable for AI-supported analysis is larger than it appears.
Field crews and operations center staff need access to asset-specific technical knowledge — protective relay settings, switching procedures, equipment specifications — at the time they need it, in the field or on a call. The documentation exists but is not organized for rapid retrieval in operational conditions. Incorrect information retrieval in a high-voltage environment has consequences that cannot be undone.
What we deliver
Synthetic data
Synthetic grid and asset datasets with realistic operational profiles, outage patterns, and maintenance histories for model training, operational simulation, and system testing without using live SCADA or customer data.
Custom models
Operations and compliance models trained on your asset records, operational history, and regulatory documentation — supporting outage analysis, compliance documentation, and field operations intelligence specific to your grid topology and operating practices.
Knowledge & retrieval
A structured index of your asset records, NERC standard applicability, approved switching procedures, and engineering specifications — queryable by operations and compliance staff with traceability to the authoritative source document.

Common deployments
NERC CIP compliance documentation
Retrieval system over applicable NERC standards and internal evidence libraries that assists compliance staff in preparing audit-ready documentation packages with standard-level citations.
Asset record retrieval
Query interface over the full asset record corpus — GIS data, work orders, maintenance history, engineering drawings — that surfaces the complete picture of a specific asset without manual cross-system lookup.
Outage root cause support
Pattern analysis on outage and event records that surfaces similar historical events and their root cause findings to support ongoing outage investigation.
Field operations technical reference
Mobile-accessible retrieval system for approved switching procedures, relay settings, and equipment specifications, with citation to the current approved document version.
